About

How we work.

SMEPoint LLC is a United States company building professional manufacturing software, written to hold up under production use — a harder target than a demonstration. This page is about how that is arrived at.

Method

How a change gets into a release.

Toolpath code is unusually unforgiving. A mistake in a spreadsheet gets corrected; a mistake in a finishing pass is a ruined workpiece, sometimes a broken cutter, occasionally a damaged machine. So the working method is deliberately slow in one specific place: nothing is declared fixed on the strength of an argument.

A reported problem gets measured before it gets touched, which regularly shows the obvious explanation to be wrong. Anything visual is rendered and looked at. New checks are run against the old code first, to confirm they would actually have caught the thing they were written for. Posted G-code is compared byte for byte against known-good files before a release goes out.

None of this is exotic practice. It is ordinary engineering discipline, applied to an area where the cost of being wrong lands on somebody else's machine.

Licensing

Why licences are perpetual.

A router is bought once and expected to earn for fifteen years. Software rented by the month sits awkwardly against that, and the mismatch is not only commercial: when a subscription lapses, the archive goes with it, and a proven programme from four years ago becomes a file nobody can open.

The licence is therefore sold outright. It installs on the computer that runs it, includes a year of updates and does not expire. Renewing buys new releases; it never buys continued use of what is already installed.

Privacy

Why the software does not phone home.

Licences verify on your own computer, against a cryptographic key compiled into the application, with no network anywhere in the path. Workstations wired to controllers are frequently isolated by policy, and in plenty of shops that policy is not negotiable. A production floor should also not stop because a vendor's server is having a bad afternoon.

What we do not do

Three things left out on purpose.

No telemetry

Nothing is collected

Nothing about what you design, what you cut, or how often the application is opened.

No trackers

This site tells nobody

No analytics, no advertising, no third-party scripts. The typefaces are served from our own server.

No pressure

An honest trial

The trial does not nag, expire or quietly degrade. It holds back one thing, says so plainly, and leaves the rest working.

Working with us
